Taranis and hobbyking 12-1 cable

i keep getting a no controller found error.
verified the cable set works with realflight so cable and taranis are ok
cable has 4 modes for the sims...xtr, g4 g5, aerofly, phoenix
what mode should i use for heli X? also should my trainer be in slave or master
