I run Heli-X on a semi-daily basis and it's helped me greatly in learning and practicing my skills. It's a fun and high quality piece of software and I enjoy it a lot.

I've been using Heli-X6 with the following:
Intel i5 PC with Intel graphics card
Windows 10
Hitec Aurora 9X transmitter

I've been using an Esky gutted 4 channel controller that I bought from a local hobby shop and it worked fine until it suddenly died after about a year. After replacing it's built-in USB cable it worked again but had a lot of jitter and I had to calibrate it every time I wanted to use it.

I've bought a 6 channel USB interface cable from rcflieger96 on eBay and it wouldn't detect the aileron channel or any of the buttons so it was useless. The seller just asked for it back and refunded me.

I've bought the Hobbyking USB Simulator Cable All in One. They don't put much details about it on the site and it ended up being a 4 channel so only stick control works. No flight modes or autos. If anybody's looking for a cheap 4 channel interface that works I can recommend it.

I've bought the Hobbyking 6CH RC Flight Simulator System (Mode 2). Also no success. Windows joystick calibration detects it as 6 channels just fine but Heli-X6 only detects the sticks. No buttons. so again, no flight modes, no autos, besides using the keyboard of course.
IMPORTANT - I wouldn't recommend this gutted transmitter to anyone for use as a 6 channel for helicopters with any simulator because the toggle switches will not function as required in any case. The right-hand toggle switch can't be used as Throttle Hold because it internally mixes the elevator and aileron channels in a weird 45 degree angle that I can't imagine how anybody would benefit from. It even has been sticker labeled "MIX" and I don't think it can do any other function unless you physically alter the circuit on the board inside the controller.

Finally I've been trying to use SmartPropoPlus with a simple mono audio cable connecting my Aurora 9X to the PC microphone jack. SmartPropoPlus does it's magic and detects 9 channels. It's monitor shows them all reacting correctly to the inputs and it reads "fully operational".
Unfortunately as soon as I load Heli-X (within 10 seconds or so) I get a popup message from SmartPropoPlus that reads "Audio signal is OK but cannot calculate joystick position" and all functionality is lost. Following this interference Heli-X detects nothing from the transmitter. Interesting to note: Heli-X does read the channels from SmartPropoPlus perfectly for a few seconds before the interference begins.
I haven't found a way around this yet. Any ideas?

In conclusion I just can't find any hardware solution for more than 4 channel functionality on Heli-X.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I'm running windows 10 (with all updates) Interlink controller (USB) Purchased it with Real Flight. Heli-X latest Demo version. 6.0.1616. I have no stick input whatsoever. I've spent hours fiddling around with it, but all sliders stay at maxed out. The Buttons on the Interlink work OK and it runs perfectly on Real Flight and Aerofly RC7 Deluxe. My purchase of Heli-X depends on whether I get the Interlink to work.

I have also tried getting the XBox (wired) controller to work, but it's exactly the same problem.

Hallo,

Betriebssytem: Windows 10
Interface: BMI Gamepilot, RX2SIM Freakware, Sender Graupner MX 16, Empfänger GR12L
HELI-X 6.0

Nutze HELI-X schon seit einigen Tagen mit BMI Gamepilot alles i.O.

Heli-X 6.1 - can't wait for version 7!

Devo 10 Transmitter, reprogrammed with Deviation, and using the built-in USB interface. This works well, as you can use all the transmitter's functions, such as dual-rates, exponential, throttle hold, flight modes, etc.

Computer - AMD 1700 CPU, RX 480 graphics, 16 GB RAM, SSD, UHD IPS monitor, Windows 10-x64. I have all Open GL parameters set to their highest levels, and am running at 2160p, and Heli-X isn't even phased. You could crank up the graphics quality on Heli-X, for us power users with gaming systems!

So I just recently (today!) got Heli-X registered and downloaded the new version (7). My demo was the previous version. Firstly, I just want to say overall that this sim is the best I have tried so far, and that's saying a lot since I've tried almost every one out there!

My System:
Panasonic Toughbook Mk. 4
Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit SP1
- May switch to Windows 10
Intel Core i5 3320M 2.6Ghz
- I hate intel... I prefer AMD but...
8GB RAM
- Plan to upgrade to 16GB but I don't feel this hinders Heli-X (for my use) much
Integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000
- Not exactly tearing up the frame rate, but get about 50-80 FPS
Intel 300GB SSD
- Never ran Heli-X on an HDD, but I think the SSD is the way to go

Interface:
GoolRC Flysky SM100 - http://a.co/gpyIx8z
- Not a huge fan of it at all, but it works
- I would much prefer a wireless based connection

Transmitter:
Frsky Horus X12S
- Bought used off eBay
- Came with OpenTX v2.2.0 installed
- Use as mode 2

Heli-X Version:
7.0
- Setup also worked well on 6.1 demo

Comments:
I use this sim for training. Like beginner training. I have yet to actually fly a collective pitch heli in real life. I have 2 mCPX's and a T-Rex 450SE V2 (used off eBay of course) waiting to take to the sky, but until I get my orientation improved and comfortable with the cyclic controls, they're staying grounded (otherwise it'll be a prompt dirt nap for them, I have no doubt).

With that in mind, while I certainly appreciate the quality of the graphics, I chose Heli-X over others because of the physics (and training modes). I would trade graphics quality for realism in a heartbeat. To me, Heli-X is a tool, and I expect my tools to do the job they were designed for, no questions asked. Heli-X does exactly that, and I appreciate it. I HEAR (I have no first-hand knowledge to contribute yet) that smaller helicopters in sims, in general, don't have the same realism from a physics perspective as the larger ones do. I don't know if that trend follows Heli-X, but if it does, it would certainly be nice to have very realistic behaving small helicopters in addition to the larger ones.

By far, the one thing I would like to see most be developed more is greater compatibility with transmitters. Specifically the OpenTX (and specifically on the Horus, personally) system. By that, I mean being able to use the functions on the radio (switches, knobs, pots, sliders, etc...). My helicopter profile in my transmitter it setup to switch between flight modes (rather than just switch between curves). I don't know if any of this is specific to OpenTX, Horus, or TX's in general, but just as one example, my throttle hold is pretty much useless in the sim. Since the throttle hold is set up as its own flight mode, when I switch it on, my TX surely and correctly displays zero throttle (but still allows for collective pitch changes), yet in Heli-X even with throttle hold on, I am still able to increase the throttle and fly 'normally'. Not really an issue since we don't exactly do preflight checks on sim models, but it would be nice from a 'muscle memory' or 'habit forming' stance. Chopping the throttle down on a CP heli is a no-no, and avoiding that and hitting the throttle hold is a habit I am working on getting into. Having the heli respond appropriately in the sim would be pretty nice. I know, the sim is for FLYING helicopters, not CRASHING them, but still! Just a minor request.

Being able to use all the other little twisty-turny and clicky-clicks on my TX would be nice too. Even if not for flight modes, but for pause/resume, reset, etc... Associating a slider to light levels or distance from the heli would be handy, or a rotary switch for various training modes or configurations would be equally nice.

Last (realistic) request would be for some videos or guides with screenshots on the different settings, what they do, resolving potential conflicts, etc....

Other than that, the only other truly awesome but 'I know it will never happen' feature to have would be for creating some sort of interaction between OpenTX and Heli-X that allows you to make real-time changes in your programming and test it out on Heli-X. I haven't given too much thought to the types or methods of interactions since I'm pretty damn sure this is getting filed in the "in your dreams" section. haha

Bottom line, Heli-X is freaking awesome, it's saved me $$$$ on real heli parts, and most importantly, keeps me engaged in the hobby without becoming disheartened from catastrophic crashes to my real helis. I truly thank you for that.

Hi,
I played the X games years ago and today decided to play them again.
Bought them on steam and started them.
The problem Im facing is this: the interface and text are absolutely tiny Im using a 4k screen. Is there some kind of fix for that? Or a mod or anything?

It would be a shame if I had to turn down the resolution because the ships look gorgeous in 4k
