yes, HELI-X is compatible with any flying mode you can imagine. The problems you describe seem to come from mixers which are active in your controller. You should switch of any mixers, or use a normal plane program or something similar.

Ok, this is good news. A normal behavior. Typically this is because the user has not enough rights.

Please try this before the start of HELI-X (as root):

chmod o+rw /dev/input/e*
chmod o+rw /dev/input/j*
